A former Palm Springs man charged with a savage kidnap, rape and sexual assault over several hours of a woman more than ten years ago has finally been returned to Riverside County.
34-year-old Norman Alberto Juarez Pineda was flown to Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday May 12. A Riverside County District Attorney’s investigator picked Pineda up and then booked the alleged rapist into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, court documents reported.
The crimes happened in Apr. 2002 when Pineda went to the Desert Hot Springs apartment of a woman to whom he previously had been married.
For several hours, the victim endured a brutal attack by Pineda during which she was raped and sexually assaulted many times before he ultimately dropped her off at the emergency room at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Riverside County DA spokesperson, John Hall said in a written report.
Reports reveal that during the horrific attack, Pineda bound the woman several times, including wrapping tape around her head and mouth and stuffing a piece of sea coral in her mouth. She was threatened with a 10-inch knife and told she was going to be killed, in addition to being raped and sodomized.
Pineda is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday May 16 at 1:30 p.m. at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, Hall said.
He faces 15 felony charges.
