Pair allegedly steals $1,000 worth of electronics from Wal-Mart

Two men were arrested today for allegedly stealing $1,000 worth of electronics gear from a Wal-Mart store in San Jacinto.

Austin Reiley Bennett, 20, and Andrew Dillon Riddle, 21, both of Hemet, were arrested on suspicion of grand theft, burglary and conspiracy for allegedly taking merchandise from the store at 1861 S. San Jacinto Ave.

The suspects were each being held in lieu of $5,000 bail at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.

Store employees allegedly saw Bennett and Riddle steal the items and provided a detailed description of the suspects’ car and license plate, which deputies broadcast to surrounding police agencies, according to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Jason Sexton.

Less than 90 minutes later, Hemet police spotted the vehicle and suspects on Fruitvale Avenue, near Lyon Avenue, and arrested them without incident.

According to Sexton, all of the stolen merchandise was located and returned to Wal-Mart.
