Parolee leads Cathedral City police on car chase

A parolee released from county jail on Wednesday led Cathedral City police on a chase driving a stolen vehicle today, a police spokesman said.

At about 10:30 a.m., officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle in progress in the area of Commercial Road and Sunair Drive in Cathedral City, said police Sgt. Corwin de Veas.

Officers spotted the stolen vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, running a red light while turning southbound from Cathedral Canyon Drive onto East Palm Canyon Drive.

As the chase continued, the driver lost control of the Jeep at East Palm Canyon and Perez Road, de Veas said.

Police arrested Ryan Lynsey Nelson, 29, of Cathedral City, on suspicion of reckless driving, evading a police officer, driving under the influence, vehicle theft and violation of parole, he said.

Nelson was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment of superficial scrapes to his legs, and then booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, de Veas said.
