A native of Los Angeles, Retha Jones, has been tickling funny bones across America for nearly 20 years. She started her career as a model and actress, and discovered her talent for comedy after touring with Shelly Garrett’s hit stage play, “Beauty Shop.”
From there, she hit the comedy club circuit and felt at home making audiences erupt in laughter. In addition to performing at several comedy clubs and venues across the U.S., she has performed on several television comedy shows, including HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam,” BET’s “Comic View,” Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” among others.
Jones has won several comedy competitions including the 1st Annual California Comedy Festival and California’s Funniest Female Contest. She was also named the first runner-up in the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition and won the hearts of America as one of the Season 5 semi-finalists of NBC’s hit show, “Last Comic Standing.”
Recognized by fans and critics as being one of the funniest female comics on today’s comedy scene, Jones has been featured in many publications spotlighting upcoming talent, including the LA TIMES “Five To Watch” and Essence Magazine’s “Class Clowns” issue featuring promising comediennes.
She has shared the stage and opened for main headliners such as Chris Rock, Paul Rodriguez, Carlos Mencia, Chris Tucker, Eddie Griffin, Andrew Dice Clay, Arsenio Hall, and the late Richard Pryor.
In addition to being a powerhouse on stage, Jones has been a force in her community and has performed at several charity functions throughout her career, including the Laugh Factory’s annual Free Thanksgiving Dinner for the underprivileged, “Comedy for a Cause” benefits, and she has performed for our troops in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Okinawa, Japan.
Her current DVD, “The Best of Retha Jones,” features a selection of Jones’ most hilarious routines from Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” Bet’s “Comic View,” and ABC. The DVD also includes bonus material featuring clips from Retha’s various television and movie appearances, including her most-talked about interview on SiTV’s “Inside Joke,” where she revealed some of her intimate thoughts and a huge family secret!
