Officers from the Temecula Police Department responded to a ‘shots fired’ call on Monday May 28 just before 11:00 p.m in the 31900 block of Oregon Lane., Sgt. Jon Wade said.

An argument resulted in a fist fight between the suspect, 48-year-old Melvin Brewster and another man. After the fight ended Brewster went into the house and grabbed a handgun.

As the victim and his daughter got into their car to leave, Brewster aimed his gun at the car and fired one time, hitting the front passenger door, a Riverside County Sheriff’s press release stated.

Responding officers checked the residence and recovered a loaded handgun in the master bedroom.

Further investigation revealed a bullet struck the victim’s car, extremely close to where the victim was sitting. Neither occupant in the vehicle was injured during the shooting.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Forensic Services arrived to photograph the scene and collect evidence.

Brewster was subsequently booked into the Southwest Detention Center on two counts of attempted murder and shooting at an occupied vehicle, Sgt. Wade added.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Temecula Police Department at 951-696-3000.
