Parolee allegedly stabs Moreno Valley man during robbery

A parolee who allegedly stabbed a Moreno Valley man when the victim refused to give up his bicycle to the suspect was behind bars today.

William Ray Minchaca

William Ray Minchaca, 28, was arrested shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and parole violations following an alleged attack in the 24000 block of Webster Avenue.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Minchaca allegedly confronted a man on his bicycle, brandished a knife and told the victim to give him the bike and anything else he was carrying.

“When the victim attempted to flee, the suspect stabbed him and fled with the victim’s bicycle,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Walter Mendez.

Deputies were summoned and found the bleeding man, who provided a description of his assailant, leading to a search of the area, Mendez said.

Minchaca was spotted moments later and tried to elude deputies, who chased him down and arrested him at gunpoint, according to sheriff’s officials.

The knife and the victim’s bike were found nearby, Mendez said.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was transported to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where he is recovering.

Minchaca is being held without bail at the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside.
