Construction crew ruptures gas line in El Cerrito

A gas line rupture in El Cerrito today prompted the evacuation of two homes.

A construction crew digging near the intersection of El Cerrito and Temescal Canyon roads struck the pipe shortly before 3 p.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Two engine crews were sent to the location to ensure the safety of nearby residents. Occupants of two homes voluntarily evacuated, a fire department spokeswoman said.

No injuries were reported.

A Southern California Gas Co. crew was making repairs to the line.
