A parolee was arrested today on suspicion of threatening family members with a stolen handgun during an argument, a police sergeant said.
A man reported that someone was threatening people with handgun at an apartment complex in the 68600 block of Corral Road around 4 a.m., Cathedral City police Sgt. Julio Luna said. Officers found 23-year-old Luis Eduardo Espinoza of Cathedral City in the pool area with a loaded .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun, Luna said.
“Espinoza was involved in an argument with other family members and threatened them with the firearm,” Luna said, adding that no one was hurt. Espinoza is on parole for a felony conviction, and the handgun was reported stolen to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Palm Desert station, Luna said.
Espinoza was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property. He was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, his bail wasn’t immediately available.
