Cathedral City: Rally planned for boxing champ

Cathedral City will hold a rally Saturday to welcome home boxer and native son Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley, who defeated Manny Pacquiao over the weekend.

The rally will be 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday  in Cathedral City’s Town Square, city spokeswoman Lynn Mallotto said.

Bradley, who was born in Cathedral City and graduated from Cathedral City High School, beat Pacquiao in a much-debated split decision to claim the World Boxing Organization welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last Saturday.

“Family, friends and supporters from Cathedral City and, throughout the Coachella Valley will gather to cheer the champ on when he addresses the crowd,” Mallotto said.

The event is free and open to the public.

Free parking will be available in the Civic Center parking structure.
