Hiker over-heated, but safe in Palm Springs rescue

A hiker suffering from heat exhaustion was hoisted from a Palm Springs-area trail by helicopter today, a county fire department spokeswoman said.

Someone alerted authorities about the hiker, who was near Snow Creek and Fall Creeks roads, about 2:15 p.m. Firefighters reached the male hiker, and then called for a helicopter to hoist him down from the trail, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

The man was transported to a local hospital, Hendrickson said.

He was expected to recover.
