A man allegedly driving a stolen van was arrested in a Target parking lot today after police chased him through Indio.
A police officer saw a man driving a white Ford van run a red light at Golf Center Parkway and Indian Springs Drive about 2:40 p.m. The van got on westbound Interstate 10, chased by the officer. The pursuit reached about 70 mph, and the van exited at Jackson Street, Indio Police Department spokesman Ben Guitron said.
“As he’s reaching the top of the off ramp, the bridge, he hits a guardrail. He continues on Jackson and goes down the embankment of the bridge. He comes to rest on the bottom,” Guitron said.
The suspect got out of the van and ran through the parking lot of a super Target on Jackson Street before he was arrested. The van was stolen in the unincorporated county area north of Avenue 46 between Indio and Coachella, Guitron said.
No one was hurt during the chase. The suspect’s name was being withheld, Guitron said.
