A man was killed today when he was struck by a freight train in Riverside, authorities said.
The man, who was between 20 and 30 years old, died at the scene of the incident, which occurred around 1:25 a.m. about 320 feet southwest of the Mary Street crossing, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau.
A preliminary investigation indicated the man “was seen lying down on railroad tracks and was struck by a passing train,” the coroner’s bureau said in a statement.
The death was being investigated by the Riverside Police Department.
The man’s name was not immediately released.
