A signal fire helped rescuers locate two hikers near the top of the Palm Springs Tram on the night of Thursday June 14, officials reported.
The two men, 67-year-old John Wilson of Walnut, and 21-year-old New York resident Evan Boccardi called for help a several hours before they were rescued and reported they were both uninjured but needed help.

Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit swiftly mobilized and began searching for the two men. Rescuers located the hikers when a Cal Fire Air Unit spotted a fire lit by the men, Sgt. Anthony Williams said.
Both men were found to be in good spirits and were escorted back to the Palm Springs Tram.
Law enforcement officials strongly advise anyone heading out to hike to be properly prepared with a well thought out plan shared with friends and family, as well as a working knowledge of common hiking equipment.
