Well-known for their platinum-selling CD and hit single of the same name ”Zoot Suit Riot,” the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies helped instigate the “swing music revival” in the late 1990s and early 2000s, along with bands such as the Brian Setzer Orchestra and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
The Daddies will bring their exciting swing/ska, mosh pit-style of dance music beginning at 7 p.m. June 22 to Temecula’s Wine Country.
“Expect high energy swing music,” said Daddies’ lead singer Steve Perry, aka MC Large Drink.
Presented by Golden Crown Productions and hosted by Wiens Family Cellars, one of Temecula’s premier wineries and concert venues, the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies show will lead off an entire summer’s worth of concerts in Temecula.
“Especially because they’re a dance band with a huge hit, we’re really excited that the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies are our first concert of the summer season,” said Greg Hassler, co-owner of Golden Crown Productions.
Luke Wiens, Director of Marketing for Wiens Family Cellars added: “Our summer concert series is always a blast. Just like everyone else, our family enjoys getting together for good music, food, and great wine.”
The band is just starting its west coast summer tour and loves the fact that this concert is in Temecula wine country.
“We have (performed at) a great number of vineyards and wineries. I think it’s just a great opportunity for people to hear music outdoors,” Perry said. “(Plus) my voice is stronger when I’m outside in the fresher air.”
Besides a heavy dose of “swinging danceable music,” guests can expect a few choice ska/punk cuts that speak to the band’s earlier roots. And with a new album in the works — “White Teeth, Black Thoughts” — the Daddies will certainly unleash some new tunes as well.
Perry said: “We will be doing a few tunes off the record, but some of it is still unrecorded, so we are hoping to do a crowd-sourcing funding campaign on musicpledge.com to finish the project. That site will go live any day. So folks can help us get this record to where we want it to be.”
For the Daddies show, proceeds will benefit Animal Friends Of The Valley, a Temecula Valley animal shelter.
Opening for the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies will be Big Papa and the TCB. Expect a little “cool daddio” jump blues, rock, and swing to start the evening.
