Graduation ceremonies planned at UC Riverside

Hundreds of UC Riverside students, surrounded by family and friends, will don their caps and gowns today and celebrate the completion of their studies at two graduation ceremonies.

Bachelor’s and master’s degree recipients from the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences will be recognized during commencements on the campus’s Pierce Lawn at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The students are among more than 4,100 graduating in the class of 2012, according to the university.

Four additional graduation ceremonies are scheduled tomorrow and Monday.

The first ceremony was held Friday for graduates from the School of Business Administration.

During the 8 a.m. program today, newly minted baccalaureates in psychology, sociology, religious studies and women’s studies will be recognized. The scheduled keynote speaker is Charles E. Young, UCLA chancellor emeritus.

At the 6 p.m. commencement, undergrad and grad students in art history, creative writing, English, music, dance and theatre will collect their diplomas. The scheduled keynote speaker is Chris Abani, UCR creative writing professor and author.
