More than 600 residents and businesses in the Palm Desert area were without power this morning, a Southern California Edison spokesman said.
The outage occurred at about 8:30 a.m. today, leaving 1,084 customers without electricity, said Edison spokesman Scott Andresen.
The number had dropped to 660 by 10:45 a.m., he said.
The outage is affecting customers between Avenida Las Palmas to the north and Palm View Drive to the south, and between Bob Hope Drive on the west to San Pascual Avenue to the east, Andresen said.
He could not give a time estimate for full restoration.
“Our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to get the power restored,” Andresen said.
The cause was unknown and was being investigated, he said.
