The 2012 San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons/Sav-on, has a special place for family fun — the Infield. The emphasis here is on kids and activities the whole family will enjoy. You’ll also find plenty of activities that are “Out Of This World!”
Like the rest of the Fair, the entire Infield is a smoke-free zone.
Kiddieland is among the attractions guests will find in the Infield. Rides are sized for toddlers to about age 12, and games are scaled to their skill level.
The Fair’s theme takes on a new dimension when entering the realm of Science Fiction, UFOs and other evidence of life beyond earth out in the infield at Area Fifty-Fun. Experience the unexplained and unexplored. The sky’s the limit.
The High Fly’N Zip Line is new this year. Take a 400-foot ride from a 40-foot platform as you soar over the Infield Lake on this fast-moving thrill ride.
The Infield will be the spot where you can sample some of the best food on four wheels at the new Food Truck Festival, from noon to 4 p.m. Monday, July 2 (or until the food runs out).
On a daily basis, one of the Fair’s new food treats this year is lobster. The Lobster Shack is located in the Infield, serving daily steamed lobster tails fresh from Maine.
This season, the Fair presents the Kids Festival. This day of special fun in the Infield will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 30. It features an “Out Of This World” costume contest for kids and adults at the Area Fifty-Fun exhibit.
Ribbons and prizes will be awarded for best costumes in a number of categories. Those wearing winning costumes will join a parade with Rock-It the Robot, Fair mascot Roswell, and Star Wars characters. Featured this special day will be the “Storm Trooper Olympics.”
Kids will love this fun obstacle course from the San Diego Star Wars Society. The Kids Festival also will present activities from the San Diego Air and Space Museum, The U.S.S. Midway Museum, and The New Children’s Museum.
