A 300-acre wildfire in Cottonwood Canyon in Cabazon was expected to be contained tonight, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 9:15 p.m. Sunday near Desert View and Cottonwood roads. Fifteen families living nearby were evacuated late Sunday, but voluntary evacuation orders were lifted this morning, and no structures were damaged, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.
The non-injury fire had stopped spreading by this morning and was said to be 40 percent contained, with full containment expected at 6 p.m., Hendrickson said.
About 280 firefighters were at the scene, she said.
