Fire threatens near Beaumont

A fire burned about a half-acre near the junction of Interstate 10 and Highway 60 in Beaumont today, a county fire department spokeswoman said.

The fire in brush and palm trees was reported at 12:55 p.m., and firefighters were expected to stay on the scene until 3 p.m.

Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann urged motorists in the area to yield to fire department vehicles.
