Fires erupt at Camp Pendleton, crews battling blazes

Update 5:25 p.m.:  According to Cal Fire officials, there are currently four fires burning at Camp Pendleton. Residents in the Southwest Riverside County may experience drift smoke throughout the evening.

“These fires are no threat to Riverside County,” Cal Fire spokesperson Jody Hagemann explained.

Original Story:  The fire broke out at about 2:30 p.m.approximately two miles northwest of Camp Pendleton,  Cpl. Christopher Duncan with the Camp Pendleton Fire Department explained.

“As of right now, the fire has burned between 25 – 40 acres and is moving in a northeast direction,” Cpl.Duncan said.

One strike team is currently battling the blaze and Cal Fire has been contacted for additional help.
