A Marine reservist and two other people were due to be arraigned next month on charges of conspiring to beat the reservist’s pregnant wife to death in the couple’s Canoga Park apartment — an attack the woman survived.
According to police, the woman was assaulted at 12:40 a.m. June 16 in an apartment in the 8600 block of DeSoto Avenue. Court documents indicated that the woman was beaten with household items ranging from a frying pan to a fan.
The 23-year-old woman was four months pregnant, police said. She and her unborn baby survived the attack.
Police said detectives determined that her estranged husband, Marine reservist Brian Boseman Corder, 26, conspired with his girlfriend, Fredericka Leroya Carmouche, 19, of Sherman Oaks, and Stephon Tenoa Crutchfield, 21, of Pasadena, to arrange and carry out the attack.
Neighbors told CBS2 they saw Corder shortly after the attack crying and asking who would attack his wife. But LAPD Detective Chris Casey told reporters Wednesday that “things weren’t adding up right.”
Corder, Carmouche and Crutchfield were all arrested and have since been charged with one felony count each of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a crime and first-degree burglary with a person present. The are due in court for arraignment July 10.
All three remain jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.
