Unannounced inspections of various commercial vehicles, including limousines, shuttle vans and taxicabs were being conducted today at Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said.
The inspection operation began about 8:30 a.m., and was scheduled to continue through 12:30 p.m., said airport police Sgt. Belinda Nettles.
Crews were inspecting vehicles at three locations:
– LAX Parking Lot C, at Westchester Parkway and Jenny Street;
– LAX Parking Lot F, at Century Boulevard and Avion Drive; and
– Upper/Departures Level, on the east end of Terminal 7.
Inspectors are working to determine that the commercial vehicles are mechanically sound and properly registered, and the drivers have the right licenses.
Such surprise inspections are conducted at various times.
Today’s operation included personnel from the airport police department, the California Highway Patrol, and the California Public Utilities Commission.
