Two deputies injured during fight at Moreno Valley store

Shoppers at a Moreno Valley discount store scuffled with sheriff’s deputies trying to make a shoplifting arrest, and two deputies were treated at a hospital as a result, a sheriff’s department spokesman said today.

Deputies were sent to the 99 Cents Only Store in the Sunnymead Towne Center, 24899 Alessandro Blvd. shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday to investigate a shoplifting call.

The suspect resisted and other customers in the store confronted the deputies trying to make the arrest, sheriff’s Sgt. Marla Lingo said.

“Additional officers responded to the scene for crowd control,” Lingo said. “Once the scene was contained, it was determined that two officers required medical attention for minor injuries at the hospital.”

Deputies arrested Cynthia Jean Mosley, 24, of Moreno Valley, for suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest and causing injury to an officer.
Patrick Lee Brunson, 21, of Moreno Valley, was arrested for suspicion of resisting arrest and causing injury to an officer, Lingo said.

Both were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.

The sergeant said she did not know the exact injuries suffered by the deputies.
