Flowers will be placed today on the Hollywood Walk of Fame star honoring Andy Griffith, who died in North Carolina this morning. He was 86.
The flowers will be placed on the star at 6418 Hollywood Blvd. at noon by the Hollywood Historic Trust.
A television icon, Griffith starred in “The Andy Griffith Show, “Mayberry R.F.D.” and the long-running “Matlock.”
His TV son, director Ron Howard, tweeted that “his pursuit of excellence and the joy he took in creating served generations and shaped my life. I’m forever grateful. RIP Andy.”
He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George Bush in 2005.
Griffith died this morning at his home in Manteo, N.C.
He was born in Mount Airy, N.C., a small town near the Virginia border where the population is around 10,000.
