Update: The pilot who died when the helicopter he was landing crashed near Lake Skinner has been identified by the Riverside County Coroner.
Corona resident Carl Nurmi died as a result of his injuries, the report stated.
Original Story: Officials with Cal Fire and the Riverside County Fire Department are on the scene of helicopter crash in the Lake Skinner area.
According to a Riverside County Fire Department report, the helicopter went down shortly after 10 a.m., west of Borel Road near Lake Skinner.
One person was killed in the crash and another person is being treated for minor injuries, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Albert Martinez.
Martinez said that Riverside County Sheriff’s officials received the call of the downed aircraft in an open field near Buck and Borel roads at 10:17 a.m. this morning.
The helicopter was a private aircraft and it is not known at this time if the pilot died in the crash, he said.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and is on its way to the scene.
