Two cars plunge into ravine on Palm Desert mountainside

Four people were injured today when two vehicles plunged into a ravine south of Palm Desert.

The wreck was reported about 9:40 a.m. on state Route 74, near Big Horn Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Two cars went off the road on a mountainside and dropped 50 to 75 feet down.

According to the Riverside County Fire Department, four people suffered minor to moderate injuries in the crash, but none had to be extricated.

Indio CHP Officer Joe Zagorski said it wasn’t immediately clear what triggered the wreck. He noted, however, that there is a bend in the road where the two vehicles went over.
