Cathedral City: Gunman opens fire on security guard

A security guard shot by a man he found drinking in the stairwell of a Cathedral City business was hospitalized today.

The guard was shot several times while on duty in a building at the Rancho Vista Plaza at 32220 Rancho Vista about 7:45 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The gunman got away, running west into a neighborhood, police said. A search of the area with tracking dogs was fruitless.

The wounded guard’s name and hospital condition were unavailable early today.
