What better way to escape the Inland heat than by hitting our local beaches? Tired of the same old sand and sea? Looking to switch up the normal routine for a whole new scene?
Check out these eight great beach spots that dot the Southern California coastline:
This historic stretch of white sand is marked by the oldest and most beautiful architectural structure to grace the coastline — the Hotel del Coronado. Stay for the week or spend the day strolling the lush grounds.
Shopping, cycling, jogging and an amazing theme park are just a few of the fun and crazy things that await you at this cool beach. Oh yeah, and the Pacific’s majestic horizon lies just beyond.
Lined by towering palms and a generously-sized walkway to skate or stroll, this popular beach enjoys deep white sands and a broad stretch of horizon. There are swings and things for the kids and a grassy area for picnics, too.
Tucked away and just off La Jolla’s prestigious Prospect Ave., is the gem of the Pacific — La Jolla Cove. Gazebos perched on dramatic cliffs make for romantic sunsets and private little coves are great to take a quick dip in the ocean. Don’t miss the chance to visit with the seals at the Children’s Pool.
This beach is probably one of the most popular among Southwest Riverside residents. It has to be mentioned for its scenic pier anchored by hearty dining and the plentiful fire pits that warm up the nights as the sun goes down.
Immerse yourself in the true, historic San Diego beach lifestyle at Pacific Beach — or P.B., as the locals call it. It’s a young, hip college-student scene where surfers and boogie-boarders rule the sea. Taco stands and a lively nightlight make this one happening place.
Pour yourself into a wetsuit and get ready to take on the waves in Encinitas. This is a popular beach for serious surfers looking for that perfect ride. There are picnic tables and public restrooms, but beyond that, this is surfer country.
Nestled in the heart of Malibu, this idyllic beach is where all the stars go. Not only has Hollywood filmed some classic films here, such as “Gidget” and “Beach Blanket Bingo,” but you may just come across some of the hottest talents of the day looking for a cool retreat.
