Corona man dies when he crashes into tree

A 24-year-old Corona man died when he lost control of his pickup truck and smashed into a tree near the community of Homeland, west of Hemet, a fire department spokeswoman said.

Barrett Gomez crashed at 1:05 a.m.on Sunday July 22, along state Highway 74, west of Contrite Avenue, said Jody Hagemann of the fire department.

The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene at 1:23 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating the cause of the crash.
