Riverside man drowns at Big Bear Lake

A 44-year-old Riverside man drowned when he fell from a Sea Doo personal watercraft on Big Bear Lake, the San Bernardino County coroner’s office said on Sunday July 22.

At about 5 p.m. Friday, Cesar Espana was a passenger on a Sea Doo when the driver made a sharp turn, according to coroner’s investigators.

Both men fell into the water, which was reported to be about 68 degrees this week.

Espana was not wearing a life jacket and slipped beneath the surface, the statement said.

A San Bernardino County sheriff’s dive team searched until dark on Friday, then resumed Saturday morning and recovered the body at 11:48 a.m.

The driver of the Sea Doo was pulled from the water just after the mishap and was not injured, according to the San Bernardino County sheriff’s department.
