A man who said he was kidnapped in Paramount, shot in the head and dropped off in downtown Los Angeles was hospitalized today, but it appeared he would survive.
Police were called to the 1800 block of E. Sacramento Street just before 5 a.m. and found the victim conscious, walking and talking, but suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, said Sgt. L. Martinez, a watch commander at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Newton Station.
He said he was at the corner of Garfield Avenue and Century Boulevard when a group of men abducted him and later dropped him off downtown, Martinez said.
The unidentified victim was taken to USC Medical Center for treatment.
The LAPD also notified the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Paramount Station, whose investigators were sent to the hospital and the intersection where the man said he was abducted to check out his story, Martinez said, adding that police believe the man is a gang member from Paramount.
