Los Angeles Lakers forward Matt Barnes was arrested Monday night in Manhattan Beach on suspicion of threatening a police officer.

Barnes, 32, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard, said Manhattan Beach police Lt. Steve Tobias.

An officer who was aware that Barnes had an outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor traffic offense saw him on foot and took him into custody, Tobias said.

Barnes threatened the officer in the course of being arrested for the traffic warrant, Tobias said.

Barnes was booked at the Manhattan Beach Police Department and was being held in lieu of $51,000 bail, Tobias said.

There was no immediate response to a request for comment from the Lakers.

The arrest was initially reported by the celebrity news website TMZ.
