Three men armed with handguns and wearing masks and gloves burst into a check-cashing business in Hemet on Friday Aug. 3, and made off with an unknown amount of cash, a police spokesman said.
The incident took place at about 11:15 a.m. at the Check Into Cash in the 3000 block of West Florida Avenue, Hemet police Cpl. Frank Pitett said.
There were about 15-20 customers inside, including some children, when the gunmen came in, ordered everyone inside to lie on the floor and demanded that employees give them money from the safe, Pitetti said.
Police recovered a getaway car — a light blue 1989 Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen in Moreno Valley earlier in the day — but officers said one witness saw the men drive the Camry behind the business and switch to a different dark vehicle before driving away, Pitetti said.
Investigators asked anyone with information to call the Hemet Police Department at 951-765-3897.
