A taxi driver escaped what deputies said was a robbery attempt early today in San Jacinto, despite having a gun pointed at his stomach, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

The taxi driver told deputies that he picked up two men in Hemet at about 1:40 a.m. and drove them to Evans and Centro streets in San Jacinto, where he intended to drop them off, sheriff’s Cpl. Jason Sexton said.

At that point, one of the men pulled out a gun and aimed it at the driver, but the intended victim struggled with the gunman and was able to drive away unharmed, Sexton said.

Nothing was taken during the robbery attempt, he said. The suspects were described as black males in their early 20s, with shaved heads and thin builds.

One suspect was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with dark-colored shorts and the second suspect was wearing dark jeans and a dark T-shirt.

Investigators asked anyone with information to call the San Jacinto station at 951-654-2702.
