A 3-year-old New Mexico boy hit by a pickup truck on a busy Point Loma-area street during a family visit to San Diego died in a hospital early today.
Arthur Roan wandered away from his family’s hotel room shortly before 7:30 p.m. Thursday and walked into traffic at Nimitz Boulevard and Rosecrans Street, where a Toyota Tacoma hit him, according to police and the county
Medical Examiner’s Office.
Medics took the toddler to UCSD Medical Center for emergency surgery. He was then transferred to Rady Children’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries about 2 a.m.
There were no indications that the 54-year-old driver of the truck was at fault for the accident, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Andra Brown said. The man was fully cooperative with investigators, she said.
The boy and some of his relatives had traveled from their hometown of Vanderwagen, N.M., to attend his older brother’s graduation from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, according to the medical examiner.
