A 44-year-old man riding a bicycle was killed and a second bicyclist he was riding with was slightly hurt today when they were struck by a vehicle in Bermuda Dunes, a county fire department spokeswoman said.
Mark Ledbetter, of La Quinta, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that was reported at 7:04 a.m. in the 79900 block of Country Club Drive, just west of Avenue 42, said Jody Hagemann of the fire department.
A second bicyclist, also hit by a gold Dodge, had minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital, Hagemann said.
It was not immediately known if the motorist was cited or arrested.
Indio police were called in to temporarily close part of Country Club Drive near the Bermuda Dunes Airport, according to the CHP.
