Man arrested for attempted murder in Moreno Valley

An man who allegedly tried to shoot and kill man in Moreno Valley was apprehended after fleeing the scene in a U-Haul truck, authorities reported.

On Friday Aug. 3 just before 10:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunfire at a residence in the 7300 block of Ashley Street in the unincorporated area of Moreno Valley. Officers arrived and found a 50-year-old man suffering from several gun-shot wounds.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, Sgt. Walter Mendez stated.

Witnesses told officers a U-Haul truck crashed into a large planter on the property as the suspect sped off. Officers spotted the truck as it traveled southbound on Heacock Street from Reche Vista Road. Officers stopped the U-Haul truck and detained the driver, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s press release.

Items located in the U-Haul driven by 37-year-old Jesse Basilio Rodriguez matched evidence recovered at the scene of the crime.

Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, Sgt. Mendez said.
