A 71-year-old man was in custody today after officers responded to reports of shots being fired in the 25000 block of 2nd Street in Valle Vista, it was reported.
Deputies from the Hemet station arrived to the scene shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday evening and found Geoffrey Pearson shooting a handgun from his property toward the street, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report.
“Deputies surrounded Pearson’s home and attempted to get him to surrender when he suddenly began shooting at them,” the report said.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau, along with the Crisis Negotiation Team, responded to the scene and teamed up to persuade Pearson to surrender peacefully, officials said.
Pearson surrendered to members of the Special Enforcement Bureau and was taken into custody.
He was later transported to the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning and charged with several counts of attempted murder on a peace officer.
Pearson is being held on $1 million bail, according to jail records.
Anyone with information about this incident can contact the Hemet Station at (951) 971-3400.

there is more to the story than posted. Mo Val cops were there 50 squad cars the did a house to house search along d street. and several people went to the hospital. channel 2/9 was on scene and did not report. there is a lockdown on the truth on what really happened. and it took 24 hours before the fabricated truth was released.
No, I LIVE on the street where Geoff lives, swat team was on my roof. At THIS scene, no one was injured but yes there were many many many officers. I did hear about the house to house searches but I can’t see why this would have any connection
