Firefighters make quick work of backyard blaze in Moreno Valley

A fire that started in the alleyway behind two Moreno Valley homes and spread into their backyards was quickly knocked down today by Riverside County fire crews.

The non-injury blaze was reported around 12:15 p.m. in the 22600 block of Berkshire Lane, near Abington Place. A sheriff’s volunteer was the first to spot the flames and call for emergency assistance.

According to reports from the scene, the fire started in an alley between Abington and Berkshire, then spread into the backyards of at least two residences located on the latter. Neither home was occupied at the time.

Several engine crews responded and contained the blaze within a few minutes, a fire department spokeswoman said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
