A person was killed today and six others were injured in a single-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 10 near Thousand Palms, a county fire department spokeswoman said
The crash was about 7 a.m. near Date Palm Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol. The six injured people were taken to a hospital, four with major injuries and two with minor, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.
Three people were ejected from the vehicle and two were trapped, she said.
Three eastbound lanes were blocked while an investigation was conducted into the circumstances of the crash. Two lanes were opened around 9:40 a.m. and the No. 1 lane remained closed until further notice, according to the CHP.
