An assailant who shot a man and left him for dead along a Riverside street remained at large today.
The attack happened shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday on Arlington Avenue, near Fairhaven Drive, in an area known as La Sierra Hills, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Officers were summoned to the location to investigate reports of a man down and bleeding, said Sgt. David Amador. He said officers initially believed the 37-year-old victim had been hit by a motorist who fled the scene, but soon realized the victim had been shot.
The man, whose identity was not released, was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where he remains in serious condition, according to Amador.
The suspected shooter fled in a dark-colored four-door car with a spoiler on the rear, according to witnesses.
