A man crashed his car into a power pole in Palm Springs early today, suffering serious injuries and knocking out power to nearly 800 residents and businesses near the Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort, a police spokesman said.
The crash was reported at 1:41 a.m. on 34th Avenue east of Golf Club Drive. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and was ejected.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, said Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Villegas. It was unknown if any alcohol or other drugs played a part in the crash.
An Edison spokesman said 776 customers were without power seven hours later.
The estimated time for the restoration of power was being determined, and the road was closed while crews worked on repairing the pole, the spokesman said.
