Fire crews quickly douse Palm Springs blaze

A brush fire that was likely sparked by a lightning strike quickly scorched 15 to 20 acres in the Windy Point area near Palm Springs today, but there was no immediate threat to any structures.

The fire broke out shortly before 2 p.m. in an area south of Highway 111 west of Snow Creek Road.

Palm Springs and U.S. Forest Service fire crews were battling the blaze.

Palm Springs Fire Chief Scott Ventura said the blaze appears to have been sparked by lightning in the area.

Highway 111 was reduced to one lane of traffic in the area, according to Ventura.
