Lightning may have sparked fire in Anza

A brush fire broke out today near Anza, charring about 15 acres before crews arrived.

The non-injury blaze was reported around 12:20 p.m. near the intersection of Reservation Road and Apple Lane, in the Table Mountain area, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

A dozen engine crews, two water tender crews and four inmate hand crews — numbering around 100 personnel — were working to contain the wildfire with the aid of four air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter.

Lightening strikes in the area may have ignited the blaze.
