Palm Desert: Suspected drunk driver arrested after hit and run

A man has been arrested for allegedly side-swiping another car and fleeing the scene, deputies reported.

Officers responded to the intersection of Indian Wells Lane and Highway 111 in Palm Desert on Aug. 13 just before 9 p.m.

According to eyewitnesses a Ford Expedition changed lanes and made contact with a Chevrolet Cobalt causing damage to the vehicle, Sgt. Brad Farwell stated.

The driver of the Ford stopped briefly and then drove off at a high rate of speed.

Deputies spotted a Ford with damage consistent with the accident and arrested the driver, Alberto Alvarez, 40, of San Diego on suspicion of DUI and hit and run.
