A fire today destroyed one home and damaged part of another in Jurupa Valley, injuring two residents and displacing several more.

The blaze broke out about 2 p.m. in the 7800 block of Maria Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Eight engine crews and a truck company, numbering about 30 personnel, arrived to find a residence engulfed in flames and an adjacent property catching fire.

The first house was a complete loss, but firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading beyond the garage of the other house, a fire department spokeswoman said.

She said two people suffering from minor smoke inhalation were treated at the scene. The American Red Cross was summoned to assist a total of 10 people, though it wasn’t immediately clear how many of them resided in the home that burned down.

Could someone please explain why the water supply to the fire hydrant nearest to this fire had been cut off, delaying the firefighterss’ access to water to fight this fire? The appropriate authorities should give account for this and make sure it doesn’t happen again. The decision to close a water main may have cost a home or two and turned the lives of some families upside down. BEWARE – the fire hydrant on YOUR street might not have water, either.

  • I’d like to know why it took the fire dept. & police more than TEN MINUTES to respond to the fire after 911 was called. THAT is SHAMEFUL!
