A fire damaged a Palm Desert home early this morning, and the homeowner was taken to a hospital for treatment of breathing problems, a county fire department spokeswoman said.
The blaze in the 42600 block of Hastings Street was reported around 2:20 a.m. Firefighters saw flames and smoke coming from the house’s garage when they arrived, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.
The residents got out before firefighters arrived, and the fire was extinguished about an hour after it was reported. The homeowner, who had difficulty breathing, was transported to a local hospital, Hendrickson said.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
