Moreno Valley school placed on lock-down with report of suspicious device

An elementary school was placed on lock-down today as police investigated a call reporting a suspicious device on the campus in Moreno Valley.

Moreno Valley police officers responded to the call at 9:58 a.m. at Sunnymead Elementary School, cordoned off the area, but did not evacuate the building, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report.

“The Department’s Hazardous Device Team was notified and a search of the school grounds and buildings was conducted. No explosive device was found and it was determined that it had been a fictitious call,”" the report said.

Students and staff resumed their normal school activities around noon, officials said..

The Moreno Valley Police Department responds to all incidents of this nature as potential threats to the community and is vigilant in conducting investigations.
