A man who was taken to the emergency room of a Palm Springs hospital for a psychiatric evaluation walked away today and was later found hiding in one of the hospital’s air conditioning ducts, it was reported.
The unidentified man was brought to Desert Regional Medical Center by police after they responded to the 400 block of San Lorenzo Road about 8:30 this morning and found him on the roof of a home yelling, according to the Desert Sun.
“At no time was anyone else in the hospital ever at risk,” hospital Marketing Director Richard Ramhoff told the newspaper.
A Palm Springs police sergeant told the paper that hospital security called police about 9:30 a.m. to say the man had walked away and was somewhere inside the clinic’s east tower.
The call prompted a floor-by-floor search by authorities that eventually located the man hiding in an air-conditioning duct. Police were then able to coax him out and return him to the emergency room without incident, the story said.
The man’s name and age have not been released.
