U.S. Border Patrol agents seized about 23 pounds of methamphetamine from the gas tank of a pickup truck and arrested the driver at a checkpoint on Highway 86 near Indio today, a spokeswoman said.
The 63-year-old U.S. citizen was arrested early this morning when agents seized the 22.9 pounds of meth, with an estimated street value of $732,800, from the pickup truck he was driving, Border Patrol spokeswoman Cindy Moreno said.
Five packages of meth were found inside the gas tank of the Ford F-150, she said.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration took custody of the driver, whose name wasn’t released, Moreno said.
